SOLD ~~ SMALL ANTIQUE STEIFF JOINTED NECK BEAR ON IRON WHEELS 1905-1908

This 11" long by 9" tall Steiff jointed neck bear on wheels is a very early bear.  Steiff only made the jointed neck bear for a short period of time on these wheeled bears.  I would guess him to be about 1905-1908.  He is made form a wool burlap type fabric that once had some plush but has since been loved off.  His color is more brown than what shows in these photos.  Even with editing, it is difficult to show the true color.  His eyes are shoe buttons.  He does have some issues, most noticeably on the top of his snout, but he is still as cute as can be and displays well.  When you look at the weave of this fabric, it almost looks like yarn woven in one direction and thread in another.  On the top of the snout, it appears as though the yarn is still there, but the thread has worn away.  I believe somebody reattached his ears at some point in his life, but they looked fine to me so I left them as is.  There are remains of a thick white string attached to his neck.  I am not sure if this string was used to close his head or if some child attached it so he could pull the bear.  I chose to leave it there.  He is also missing his black stitched nose.  Please look closely at all of the photos at all areas to see condition.  I placed him on a vintage glass plate to photograph, so you can use this as a judge of his size.  You don't come across this small size be on wheels in this fabric with the jointed neck very often.
